How To Get The Blowtorch In The Fields

Updated: Nov 13, 2025, 10:44 AM

The Blowtorch is an important Item in The Fields, used to upgrade your Workbench to Level 3 and thus allowing you to unlock additional crafting recipes. You can obtain it by completing the First Step of the Hunter’s Questline.

This guide will walk you step-by-step through how to get it – from first spawning into the game to the final handoff.

Step 1: The Warehouse

Note: This step is not necessary for completing the Quest, but it will allow you to easily navigate by acquiring a Compass.

After initially spawning in, you’ll need to make your way to the Warehouse.

The game will point you in the right direction by highlighting the Generator. Simply follow it and you’ll be there in no time.

Once there, pick up any useful items off the ground, and head towards the back of the Warehouse. In the back, you’ll find a staircase leading to a small platform.

On top of the platform, you’ll notice a set of two wooden palettes stacked on top of each other. Head closer to find a Compass sitting on top of them. Equip it to add a compass bar to your HUD.

Step 2: Find The Hunter’s Cabin

The Hunter’s Cabin is a small, wooden structure tucked away in the woods.

With the Compass equipped, start moving East/South East from the Warehouse.

Keep following that direction until you arrive at the Hunter’s Cabin.

Step 3: Speak To The Hunter

“A new face around these parts? That’s a rare occurrence. Welcome.”

When you first interact with the Hunter, he’ll introduce himself and tell you his backstory.

He used to live here before the infection started, way back when it was still a peaceful place. Being a hunter, he made a living hunting game and living out his life in the small cabin behind him. When the disease came crawling, he started hearing and seeing things, thinking his mind played tricks on him.

Now, he’s a survivor, just like you.

After hearing his story, you can decide to speak with him again. He’ll mention that he could use a favor if you’re up for it. The traps he places around his cabin eat up most of his supplies, so he decided to test out some new designs. However, he’s missing one final piece before he can complete them: the Wiring.

After accepting the Quest, he’ll mention that some can probably still be found at the Construction Site.

Step 4: Find The Wiring

After speaking with the Hunter and accepting the Quest, you can start making your way towards the Construction Site.

Start by making your way North/North East, and follow that direction until you come upon a couple of containers. Behind them is the Construction site.

Note: The following is the easiest, and safest way to get your hands on some Wiring.

Image

First, start by locating the stairwell leading to the second floor of the Construction Site. Going this way, you’ll avoid most of the infected on the first floor.

Climb up the stairs to reach the second floor. Once there, take a right until you reach the two rooms at the end. Take another right and follow that direction until you reach a ledge. Below it is another stairwell with an infected next to it. Drop down and turn around to find Wiring lying on the floor. Pick it up and climb the stairs again to jump over the ledge safely.

Step 5: Turn In The Wiring

With the Wiring in your inventory, you can now return to the Hunter’s Cabin. Once there, interact with the Hunter again to hand over the Wiring.

This will complete the First Step of the Hunter’s Trial questline, and reward you with a Blowtorch.

Blowtorch Reward

Once acquired, the Blowtorch can be used to upgrade your Workbench to Level 3. This will unlock additional crafting recipes.
